Clients

Meals are for people who can maintain themselves in their own residence, but because of a handicap, convalescence, or the infirmities of age, they are unable to shop for groceries and prepare meals on their own. Meals are provided, based entirely on need, without regard to a person’s sex, age, race, nationality or creed.

Clients are interviewed by the Gaithersburg MOW Intake Coordinator before service can start. The client must be able to eat the food we provide (there are no alternative food choices) and the residence must allow safe access for our drivers to park and deliver the meals.

We provide:

  • Home delivery of 2 meals, 5 days a week, delivered at lunchtime.

  • Nutritionally balanced hot and cold meals are offered at lunchtime delivery.

  • Weekday friendly contact with the client which serves as a “well check”

  • The food is prepared in a professional kitchen at Dutch Mill Catering and delivered each morning to our site.

  • Meals meet the American Diabetes Association nutritional guidelines, are low fat, low cholesterol, and low sodium.

  • The menu is reviewed by Montgomery County's Senior Nutrition Program.

  • Delivery is each weekday, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 11 AM and 1 PM.

  • Recipients are expected to maintain their own food for weekends, holidays and snow days.

Service to Clients

Delivery Information

There is no delivery on six holidays (if they fall on a weekday):

  • New Year’s Day

  • Memorial Day (Observed)

  • Independence Day

  • Labor Day (Observed)

  • Thanksgiving Day

  • Christmas Day

If the weather conditions are such that Montgomery County Schools are closed, we will not deliver that day. If schools are delayed, we will deliver. A message will be left on our main phone number (301-371-2770) if meals will be cancelled due to weather.

Montgomery County Public School status can be checked here.

Cancellations: Call us at 301-371-2770 if you have to go out. If you need to change a delivery (e.g. a known doctor's appointment) please provide at least a week's notice. If you must leave unexpectedly, please call and put a note on the door so the driver will not worry about your well being.

Health department regulations require us to leave meals with you or another person, not on the doorstep. You can make arrangements to drop off meals with a neighbor when you’re not home.

Contribution

The cost of providing the two meals, delivered each day, is approximately $17.00 per day ($85.00 per week). Recipients are asked to donate according to their ability. No eligible person is turned away because of an inability to pay. We are a non-profit organization and all donations are gratefully accepted. Please click on the Donate page.
