Organization Statement of Service
Gaithersburg Meals on Wheels, Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization created in 1981 for the express purpose and mission of providing home delivery of low cost, nutritious meals to adult individuals of any age, race, or religion who are unable to shop for or safely prepare their own meals due to a temporary or permanent disability. The volunteers deliver a hot and a cold meal at mid-day, Monday thru Friday.
A primary goal is to enable our clients to remain in their own homes rather than having to enter an institution. In 2021 we delivered over 32,000 meals to over 100 clients living in the Gaithersburg area. The charge for ten weekly meals is only $60.00. No one is denied service due to an inability to pay.
We are totally independent with a 15-member Board of Directors. We have no paid employees. Over 90 volunteers deliver meals, do all administrative work, keep the books, maintain equipment, furnish legal services, train drivers, and oversee the many tasks necessary to provide the service. Clients are charged only for food. Meals are professionally prepared by Asbury Methodist Village’s kitchen staff. Funds are sought from the public and private sectors to support our program.
Gaithersburg MOW is a 501(c )3 non-profit charity and all donations are tax deductible.
